Cotton University Shines Bright at Youth Festival

Guwahati, February 11: A 52-member contingent of Cotton University brought laurels to the state of Assam by winning several prizes at the recently concluded ‘Karmotsav 2.0’- the 37th Inter University North East Zone Youth Festival held at the Assam Royal Global University, Guwahati during 6-10 February.

A total of 15 universities from across North East India participated in the zonal youth festival supported by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
The youth festival brought together young people from all over the North Eastern Region to showcase their talent in various fields. Cotton University participated in various events, and was able to make a distinctive mark during the festival.

The categories in which Cotton University received accolades are- Debate (1st Prize),
Classical Vocal Solo (1st Prize), Classical Instrumental Solo Non-percussion (1st Prize), Light Vocal Indian (1st Prize), Group Song Indian (1st Prize), Quiz (2nd Prize), On-spot Painting (2nd Prize), Folk Orchestra (2nd Prize), Mime (2nd Prize),
Spot Photography (3rd Prize), Cultural Procession (3rd Prize), Classical Instrumental Solo Percussion (3rd Prize), Poster Making (4th Prize), Rangoli (5th Prize), Group Song Western (5th Prize), Western Instrumental Solo (5th Prize),
Folk/Tribal Dance (5th Prize)

Apart from winning prizes in different categories, Cotton University also bagged the titles of Overall Champion in Literary Section, Overall Champion in Music Section, Overall 1st Runner-up in Theatre Section, and Runner-up in Overall Champion Section.

Commenting on the success of Cotton University at the zonal youth festival, the Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka commented, ‘I am happy with the performance of our students. They are our pride. The results of the North East Zone youth festival is a testament to the fact that Cotton University is full of potential. Being the VC, I am immensely hopeful that the University will continue to make a distinctive mark in the fields of academics, research, sports, culture and other co-curricular activities. I congratulate our contingent members and other participating universities as well.’

The team of Cotton University was led by faculty-in-charges- Dr Muktikam Hazarika, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, Cotton University and Dr Swapnali Das, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese, Cotton University.

Overall, the members from Cotton University had a great experience participating in the North East zonal youth festival. The Cotton University contingent has now qualified to compete with other universities from across six zones of India at the National Youth Festival 2024 to be held during the last week of March at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
